OUR RETREAT HOME

We will stay at the beautiful Villa Pravernara. My friend Sheila and her family renovated this 16th century villa a couple of years ago to create a beautiful retreat place in the Italian countryside. The villa stands halfway up a hill, overlooking the valley south of Valenza, the so-called “City Of Gold”. The region and the road that crosses it bear the name of the house which underlines its influence on the area. A tranquil haven, Villa Pravernara is only one hour away from the main cities Milan, Turin and Genoa.

YOGA

Each day begins with pranayama and meditation, followed by an extended vinyasa yoga class. In the asana part of the class, we will focus on different themes and peak poses, taking the time to explore them in depth. You can expect powerful and creative sequences that prepare both body and mind for the more challenging asanas. In the afternoon, we will have workshops, asana labs and philosophy talks with me and relaxing yin yoga and sound bath sessions with Lucie. In the asana labs, we break down poses from the ground up to deepen your understanding and address any questions or individual needs. In the workshops we will focus on inversions and armbalances. During the yoga philosophy session, we explore classical yoga teachings and discuss the concept of yoga beyond the mat. Lucie’s yin yoga classes provide a gentle counterbalance to the energizing morning sessions, using restorative poses and sound healing to help you wind down and relax at the end of the day.
All these offerings are of course optional: if you prefer to have more time off to read, relax, or take a walk, you are welcome to do so anytime.

I’m very happy to have my friend Lucie André join me again as a co-teacher on this retreat. As a certified teacher (Vinyasa, Hatha, Yin, Restorative and Sound) Lucie shares her passion for yoga with powerful tools such as breathwork, meditation, creative sequences, sound journeys, and yogic wisdom. She designs holistic experiences mixing various elements of Anatomy, Yoga Philosophy & Traditional Chinese Medicine. She wishes to help her students find a deep presence on the mat, so they can eventually infuse this state of being in their daily life.

THE FOOD

The delicious creations by Apricus Kitchen are always an absolute highlight on my retreats. At Vivienne’s table, wholefood ingredients take center stage: fresh vegetables, nutrient-rich whole grains, nuts and seeds, protein-packed legumes, and aromatic wild herbs. All of her dishes are vegan – and, most importantly, absolutely delicious. After our morning yoga class, we’ll enjoy a big sweet and savory brunch. If you’d like a little something before practice, tea and fresh fruit will be available. In the afternoon, a light snack and tea break will keep us nourished, and in the evening we can look forward to a wonderful three-course dinner to end the day together.

FAQ

Do I have to be an experienced Yoga practicioner to join?

No. We will be offering different variations and modifications in class, so you can adjust the practice to your needs. However, this retreat is not recommended for complete beginners.

How many people will be on the retreat?

There will be a maximum of 23 guests plus the team.

How do I get to Villa Pravernara?

There are different options for getting to Villa Pravernara. It’s usually a good option to travel to either Milan, Genoa, or Turin by train or plane. From either of those cities, it’s a one-hour drive to Villa Pravernara. Alternatively, you can take a train or bus from one of the bigger cities to Valenza which is the town next to Villa Pravernara. From there it’s only a 5 minute taxi ride to Villa Pravernara.
If you would like to share the ride, I can add you to a Google Doc so you can get in touch with fellow retreat participants.

Do I have to bring anything in particular?

You should bring comfortable clothes for your yoga practice, your yoga mat (if possible) and anything else you may need for your practice (props like blocks, straps, etc. are available at Villa Pravernara). You should also bring a good book, proper shoes for excursions and walks and suitable clothing. I recommend you check the weather forecast before your arrival, it can already get a little chilly in October.
